Celebration

Miss Catherine Gurney OBE

In 2007 The Gurney Fund joined with The St George’s Police Trust, Christian Police Association and Police Rehabilitation Centre (Flint House) to celebrate the work of our founder Miss Catherine Gurney OBE.

Grave stone

The celebrations, which took place on 15th August, were hosted by Mr Michael Baxter, Chief Executive of the Northern Police Convalescent and Treatment Centre at St Andrews in Harrogate. Seventy guests attended including former members of both the Southern and Northern homes and HM Inspector of Constabulary. As the headstone marking Miss Gurney’s grave had fallen into disrepair it was replaced.

Gurney Memorial Garden

The original headstone was renovated and relocated to the Gurney Memorial Garden, created for the event, in the grounds of St Andrews. Mr Paul Upham, Chairman of the Gurney Fund for Police Orphans, formally opened the garden.
